Life lately has been full of KARNEVAL!!
Karneval is a weird thing to explain. In Germany around the Rhein region everybody gets dressed up, most probably also pretty drunk and is listening to karnevals music. I tried to explain it to my Canadian host sister but failed miserably haha so instead of explaining I took a bunch of instagram stories. You can find them on my instagram profile (user name: maditageist). Note to my parents (;-)) I just found out that you need the instagram app on a phone in order to see it. sorry.
We all met up on Friday in Cologne. Karneval starts on Wednesday but 2 out of us 3 were working so Friday was good enough. We got dressed up, met up with other good friends and went into town. I went dressed up as a cat and needed shoes to wear. I wanted to be warm but didn´t want to mess up my normal/good UGG boots, so I went in my UGG slippers instead haha. I thought it was genius – it totally fit my outfit and kept my feet warm all night long. Suprisingly they did not get dirty, so with a little clean up I can still wear them around the house. win win.
On Sunday we met up in Dusseldorf and went to a street Karneval.
So fun! Music was playing and people were all dressed up. The best costume we saw were two men dressed up as the Queen. I could not snap a picture of them – I´m still kinda of sad about it 😉
I dressed up as a nurse this time, and was joined by a pineapple and Pipi Longstocking ;-). It was pretty cold, so we had layers upon layers of clothes underneath.
On Monday we drove to Dülken. A small town almost 1 hour away from Bonn where my dad grew up and my grandparents used to live. I have the best memories of Carnival Monday there so we thought it would be fun to go back there.
The 6 of us, together with one set of grandparents and aunts and uncles from one of us, had the best time! It was fun to dance to music, have the wagon go by and catch sweets while seeing all those costumes. If you don´t know what a Carnival train is – go and watch my instastories. Its a weird thing to explain haha
We had the best weekend and are already planning our 2019 Karneval weekend!
Lots of love,
