Man, crazy times. Who could have guessed that things would be put on hold so fast and all of the sudden everyone is home and trying to figure out how to stay healthy and a new normal? Corona – you have brought interesting times. Almost a month ago now, when it was looking like we would be put under some sort of mandatory lockdown, Katharina and I decided that it would be way better to ride it out together in our house than being separated (her in her flat 15 minutes away) which the risk of being close but not being able to see each other. Very quickly Alex decided the same, so its been the 4 of us. We are very privileged. We have our own house, with a big back yard and life in general is slower in our small village. Also, the supermarket and toilet paper situation was not as bad as in Berlin for example.

The weather has been so nice, that we ate most of our dinners outside and its been more or less flip flop weather. Which has been SO GOOD.

We cooked almost every night, which felt so normal but looking back those are probably the times I will cherish the most and love the most. It’s been such a blessing and simple act of community but so live giving.

I made Lütticher waffles one day. So good 🙂

Alex used his free times to built picture frames and all sorts of other things and helped tremendously painting our new windows. He also baked a lot, which not only we enjoyed but our neighbours as well. Good bread or buns are so good.

I wanted to try the baking as well and my first attempted did turn out really good (see picture above). I mean there is baking and there is baking. I can put together a really good dough for pizza and use the same to make buns but never have I ever baked with sourdough. Part of the dough needed to be prepared a day before and then it needed to be a certain temperature for a certain amount of time and then another for next. Seeing my dad or Alex it always intimidated me and looked like a lot of work. It was actually more fun than I thought.

My second attempt.

We can now for sure tell you, that Ilse is a “mamas” dog. She enjoys having Alex and Katharina here and from time to time she will join them – like every morning she will scratch at Alex door to greet him good morning and jump on his bed 😀

The rest of the day you can be sure to find her wherever I am. Almost always in close approximation.

Even if she is wide awake and would love to be outside and everyone else is outside. If I am not outside she will also not be outside but rather try to get my attention while I try to sleep. She will also follow me wherever I go. She is my little side kick and does not like me leaving, even though 3 other people are still at home 😀

We are all sleeping in separate bedrooms. Which is probably one of the factors that have made this as smooth as it has been. We were missing one mattress for that to work though, so we got Katharinas mattress. Until she needed it back at her place for a day/night. And to my enormes luck I found the best deal on Ebay Kleinanzeigen. I first got a almost new Lattenrost for free, which has been so comfortable that I don’t want to leave my bed anymore 😀 then I tried my luck with a used mattress. I was VERY apprehensive about it but found one for free and thought “what can go wrong?”. Alex and I drove to Cologne and picked it up and it was in super good condition, didn’t smell at all and the girl we were picking it up from could have been a friend. Now we’ve got a comfortable mattress and Lattenrost all for free 🙂
Thats been our quarantine pretty much. Spending time around the house, walking Ilse, enjoying the warm weather, eating and cooking and baking and spending time together. What a blessing.
